In the mist-choked swamps of rural Japan, something ancient stirs beneath the bamboo canopy…

You play as a lone fisherman, disoriented in a seemingly abandoned village. As you explore deeper into the eerie marshes and decaying huts, it becomes clear the villagers have undergone a transformation. Croaking whispers are all that remain of their humanity.

Gōu is a short, atmospheric adventure horror game inspired by Lovecraft's The Shadow over Innsmouth, reimagined with a Japanese twist. Uncover the chilling mystery behind the curse, and survive long enough to escape with your sanity.

Will you resist the call of the swamp, or become part of it?

muy poca cabra, demasiada agua

Nice job on this game -- amazing that you put it together in only 72 hours, with original art!  I played to the end and it played smoothly; the atmospherics of this were the highlight for me.  I noticed that in the final scene, when I had walked through the grove of trees, my reflection became that of a giant walking frog, and the frog's reflection was of me -- is it part of the lore of the game? It must have taken several of your precious hours to accomplish that, so wanted to give it a nod!  Nice!

A superb design with an immersive atmosphere - left me wanting more from this experience!

I loved the story and lore behind this. The mechanics were simple, nothing fancy, definitely had me on edge with guards and I genuinely enjoyed my time with this. I felt like the ending could have been more massive, but due to this being a game jam project, I can fully relate to the constrictions and limitations. Excellent work!

Best of luck with future games and this jam!

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed the art and story. All the assets were created 4 the jam and this is the second pixel art game i worked on so i really appreciate the kind words and support!

About the ending, yeah we had to trim a bit, maybe on a future update?
